Exe file starts but is only black screen with lighthouse cur

The EXE for the game starts on my 32bit vista laoptop but it only displays the lighthouse style cursor and shows as not responding in task manager. please someone help, id love to play for nostalgia's sake.

Try a clean install. If you still have problems, try this installer:
